DUNCAN DEMONS
Coach: MATT TERRY
6-5
Duncan is coming off a 6-5 campaign under third-year head coach Matt Terry, who knows his group will have to grow quickly as it breaks in new starters at several key positions. Terry expects the Demons to lean on a core of experienced returners early in the year for leadership and playmaking while younger players settle into expanded roles. Terry’s focus is on blending that veteran presence with emerging talent to stay competitive week to week.
Offensively, Duncan will again feature a spread attack designed to get its playmakers the ball in space, with an offensive line that includes two veterans who have started more than 25 games apiece over the last three seasons. Juniors Cord Byerly (6-3, 280) and Kaden Morris (6-3, 275) anchor that front and give the Demons size and experience on the line. On the perimeter, senior receiver Eric Hernandez (5-11, 175) and junior receiver CJ Warner (5-10, 150) provide speed and reliable hands in the passing game. Senior running back Ty Lane (6-0, 185), also a VYPE Top 100 nominee, will be a featured weapon after his impact on both sides of the ball last season. With six offensive starters returning, Duncan’s staff believes the offense can help ease the transition for new faces at key spots by consistently creating and exploiting favorable matchups.
Defensively, Duncan brings back six starters in an even-front base that can be multiple when needed, giving the Demons flexibility to adjust to different offensive looks. Lane doubles as a standout defensive back at safety, where he recorded 65 tackles, two tackles for loss, and an interception, and is described as a true student of the game who never shies away from competition. Senior defensive end Cord Brown (6-0, 185) adds experience on the edge, while senior linebackers Crew Budowsky (5-11, 190) and Blayden Harper (5-11, 180) bring toughness and range in the middle of the defense. Junior defensive lineman Isaac Cobbs (6-0, 230) and senior defensive lineman Karsen Key (6-2, 275) give Duncan size and strength up front as they work to control the line of scrimmage.
With a leadership core and a mix of proven veterans and rising talent, Duncan believes it can navigate early-season growing pains and be a dangerous team by the time district play hits its stride.
