After a strong 29-12 campaign that ended with a State Runner-Up finish, the Duncan Demons fastpitch softball team enters the new season with both confidence and a renewed sense of purpose. Head coach Jimmy Miller, now in his third year at the helm, has helped establish a competitive culture that expects to contend deep into the postseason. While the Demons graduated several key contributors from last year’s squad, the foundation remains solid, and there is optimism that this group can take another step forward.
Duncan’s outlook centers on growth and balance. Offensively, the Demons are expected to show improvement, with a lineup capable of producing more consistent run support.
Defensively, development will be key, particularly as younger players step into larger roles. With experience returning at several critical positions, the team has the pieces to maintain its identity while evolving in important areas.
Leadership will be a strength for Duncan, anchored by a versatile and experienced senior class. Rae Crow and Mady Vonfeldt provide stability and flexibility across the infield, each capable of contributing at catcher, third base, and first base. Their defensive reliability and ability to handle multiple roles give the Demons valuable options in game situations. In the outfield, Mallory Taylor brings speed and awareness to centerfield, helping anchor the defense while also contributing offensively.
Junior Shylee Orr adds another layer of versatility, seeing time at third base, first base, and catcher. Her ability to step into different roles seamlessly will be important as the team works to replace graduated talent. Together, this core group sets the tone for both effort and execution.
As the season approaches, Duncan understands the challenge ahead. Replacing production is never easy, but the Demons are focused on steady improvement and embracing the opportunities in front of them. With a blend of experienced leadership and emerging talent, Duncan has the tools to remain a formidable contender and make another push toward the state’s final stage.
