Gill Parker is a freshman on the Duncan Demons baseball team, where he plays right field when called upon. The Demons finished this past season with a 29-7 record, winning the Class 5A State Championship for the first time in school history.
The Demons were led by a strong group of seniors, which was on full display all season long up until the state championship game against Piedmont. Duncan defeated Piedmont, 15-4, a year after the Wildcats had knocked off the Demons at the regional tournament. With the most successful group of seniors in Duncan’s history gone, it will be up to guys like Parker to step up next season.
“[Gill] is a hard worker and is always looking to get better at whatever he is doing,” said second-year coach Grant Oliver. “He has an extremely good work ethic that you do not see very often. His work ethic is top notch amongst the boys, and he’s always finding something to work on. He’s just a great kid who is always happy to be at the ball field.”
Outside of athletics, Parker is heavily involved in FFA, where he competes in creed speaking a green hand. Parker is also a part of NHS and carries a 3.7 GPA. “I work with plants all year, and at the end of the year we sell them to make money for FFA,” Parker said.
For the second-straight summer, Parker works construction in Lawton. In his spare time, Parker enjoys hunting and fishing with friends and family.
Upon graduation, Parker would like to attend Oklahoma State University to major in construction management. Parker credits his dad, Gene, for his success on and off the baseball field.
“He’s not much of a quitter, and he taught me to push through everything and finish what I started,” Parker said.
