Duncan High School Coach of the Month, Amanda Woods, is actually the high school’s head athletic trainer as well as a Duncan High School Alumni. 

“Amanda Woods is probably the most valuable person in Duncan Athletics,” said Coach David McGuire. “Nobody sacrifices more for Duncan Athletics than her, nobody loves and supports Duncan athletes, sports programs, and this community as much as her and she is truly the one person in our sports program who is irreplaceable.” 

Amanda got her start at athletic training while attending the University of Central Oklahoma. She worked as a student aid there for two years with the football and women’s basketball program then worked as a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer for a year. Amanda earned a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science where she completed the requirements for athletic training and went on to earn a Masters in Education as well. After college she went on to be the Head Athletic Trainer at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma for three years. For the next 14 years she was at Duncan Regional Hospital as an outpatient physical therapy and outpatient cardiac rehab. Amanda is now in her fourth year at Duncan as the head athletic trainer and she also teaches Introduction to Sports Medicine. 

“I have a rewarding job being able to see these kids recover and get back to playing the sports they love,” Amanda said. “I love the kids and keeping them healthy and back to playing safely is something I take a lot of pride in doing.”

Amanda grew up playing sports in Duncan and currently enjoys a relaxing round of golf whenever she gets the chance. She is married to her husband Brian, who she has two beautiful daughters with. Her oldest daughter, Madison, is a senior at Duncan and involved with the POM squad and plays basketball. Her youngest daughter, Hannah, is an eighth grader at Duncan and plays softball and basketball.
