Duncan’s Ty Lane – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Ameriprise Financial

Junior Ty Lane helped deliver a memory that will last a lifetime at Duncan High School last spring. “The accomplishment I’m most proud of is winning the state title last year,” Lane said.

That success came with lessons that carry into every practice and game. “It’s taught me the importance of hard work and dedication,” he said. “The hard work pays off in the end and staying dedicated not getting distracted is very important if you want to accomplish your goals.”

One coach has shaped more than his skills. “My favorite teacher is coach Smith because he’s showed me how to work hard and how to stay humble,” Lane said. “He’s also taught me how to have leadership and always pushes me to be the best version of myself.”

Family provides the deepest inspiration. “My papa inspires me because he is one of the hardest working men I’ve known and is extremely humble,” Lane said. “He also has showed me how to preserve through times when I’m doubtful or fearful.” A teammate’s energy lingers large. “The teammate that left the biggest impact on me was Brisco Smith, we played middle infield together the last year when we won the state title,” he said. “He impacted me because he showed me that dreams are possible and also how to have the best time on the diamond.”

Lane thrives across two sports in demanding roles. “I play football, which I’m a running back and safety,” he said. “I play baseball, which I catch and play middle infield.” Representing Duncan pushes him forward. “My favorite part about representing is that it can push people to be a leader and pushes them to get better and better each day,” Lane said.

Simple wisdom helps him through tough stretches. “Best advice I have gotten is that even going through hard times there is always good in those hard times and to keep on going no matter how hard it gets,” he said. Gratitude goes to those who guide him. “Once again, I just want to shout out my baseball coach, coach Smith, he’s impacted my life in ways nobody has before,” Lane said.
