Ty Lane does not need a particular rival to raise his level. Whether it is under the lights on a football field, on the wrestling mat or during baseball season, the Duncan High School senior is motivated by the opportunity to compete, work and win.
“I love to win no matter what or who I’m against,” Lane said.
That competitive approach has helped Lane become a three-sport athlete for the Demons. He plays football, wrestles and competes in baseball, carrying the same focus and work ethic from one season to the next.
For Lane, the motivation behind that effort comes from more than the scoreboard. He notices the work his teammates put in and appreciates the people throughout the Duncan community who support the program.
“What motivates me is the hard work being shown on the field, as well as the community and them being behind our back,” Lane said.
Lane understands that success in multiple sports requires steady discipline. Balancing practices, games, conditioning and the demands of school can be challenging, but he believes the path is simple: remain focused on the goals ahead and commit to the work required to reach them.
“It has taken staying focused on my goals and reaching those through working hard,” Lane said.
One of the defining moments of Lane’s athletic career came on the baseball diamond, where he helped celebrate a state championship. Winning a title remains the highlight of his time as a student-athlete and provided a lasting example of what can happen when a team stays connected through a long season.
Lane also values the people who have helped shape him away from competition. His grandparents are among his biggest influences because of their daily encouragement and unconditional love.
“Some of my biggest influences are my grandparents because they show up every day and love me unconditionally,” Lane said.
At Duncan, Coach Smith has also played an important role in Lane’s development. Lane said the coach has taught him the value of hard work and dedication, lessons that apply far beyond athletics.
In practice, Lane enjoys competing alongside teammate Cord Brown. The pair challenge one another and bring out a higher level of intensity.
“We push each other to limits no one else has,” Lane said.
As his senior year continues, Lane is grateful for every chance to wear Duncan colors. Representing his school and community is not something he takes lightly.
“I feel honored and blessed that I get to represent my school and community on the field,” Lane said.
