Alyssa Childers is a senior at Duncan High School where she plays varsity fastpitch softball. The starting shortstop can also pitch when called upon. Childers said she loves being a student-athlete at Duncan High School for many reasons.
“The best thing about being a student at Duncan High School would have to be how much the teachers want you to succeed. When you’re behind in class because of missing school for sports, they help you get caught back up so you can keep playing the game you love,” said Childers.
On the softball team, Childers enjoys how much her teammates work for the team to be successful.
“The thing I love most about my team and teammates is the fact that they never quit even when they want too and the love we have for playing the game,” said Childers.
When they got the call about the new season, the excitement level was extremely high. For Childers it meant getting back to what she loves.
“I was extremely excited to get back on the field and play the game I love again as well as get back to school and see all my friends,” said Childers.
Away from sports Childers is a member of the Jolly Jills Social Club as well as the Oklahoma Honor Society. After graduating this spring, Childers would like to pursue a career as a paramedic or an athletic trainer.
Childers explains that her grandfather has played a huge role in helping her get to where she is today.
“My biggest influence on and off the field would be my Grandpa. He’s pushed me to be the best player and person I can be,” said Childers.
