Duncan’s Aaliyah Treat – Character Counts – Presented by Taco Tico

Duncan High School volleyball and track & field star Aaliyah Treat has been described by her coaches as having high character.

“To me, it means a lot that that is what coaches think of me, because to me, being a high-character athlete implies that I not only focus on what’s going on with me, but what’s going on with others,” Treat said. “And that I’m not too competitive but competitive enough to get the job done, and I want to become better for myself, not for others.”

Treat got her first taste of sports at 8 years old when she started gymnastics.

“And then I realized I was kinda fast, so I joined track in middle school,” Treat said. Treat believes the Duncan volleyball team can be exceptional this season.

“I believe that we just need people to step up this season if we want to win,” Treat said. “I think, personally, I have stepped up a lot since last year. I have put in lots of extra work, I have great sportsmanship and I work hard and try my best at everything I do.”

Treat has been working on several aspects of her game ahead of the 2023 season.

“I have improved my game by training harder and believing that I can be better than I am. I’ve focused more on improving myself and getting stronger,” Treat said. “I’ve also improved mentally, because I know that physical capability can only help so much. You need to improve yourself mentally. I’ve done that by trying to be more outgoing, accepting my flaws and realize that everything is a mental game, because no matter how tired you are, your body can always do more if you believe you can.”
