Duncan High School defender Keirstin Schornick has built her soccer career on discipline, resilience and pride in the name on the front of her jersey.

Schornick, who plays both center back and outside back for the Lady Demons, anchors the back line with the same steady presence she brings to the rest of her life. She points to Duncan’s back-to-back trips to the second round of the playoffs as the accomplishment that means the most to her so far, a benchmark she hopes becomes the program’s standard.

Soccer, she said, has shaped her well beyond the scoreboard. The sport has taught her discipline, especially on days when she is tired or not feeling her best but still chooses to show up and give everything she has on the field. That mindset has carried into the classroom and everyday life, where consistency and effort matter just as much.

Schornick credits several people with helping her grow. Coach Kelly stands out as her favorite teacher because he took the time to know his students and showed he truly cared, leaving a lasting impact on her as both a student and athlete. On the field, teammate Syd Miller made the biggest impression, leading by example and guiding Schornick through a challenging sophomore year.

Representing Duncan is Schornick’s favorite part of high school athletics. She takes pride in wearing her school’s name across her jersey, knowing she plays for something bigger than herself. The best piece of advice she carries is simple: no matter how hard things get, keep your head up and look for the good in every situation.

Schornick is quick to thank the coaches who invested time and effort into her development and helped her become the player she is today. She also draws inspiration from professional star Lamine Yamal, whose rise shows her that when you work hard enough, dreams really can come true.
