Duncan Mom of the Month honor goes to the mom of two busy boys, Sarah Johnson.
“I’m honored to be chosen; it’s been such a great experience watching my boys grow and mature in sports,” said Sarah.
Growing up, Sarah was raised a Marlow Outlaw and cheered throughout school.
“And to my high school friends’ surprise, I raised a couple of Duncan Demons,” said Sarah.
Her parents still live in Marlow; her in-laws live in Lawton and they have all enjoyed watching their two boys grow up playing sports.
Raising boys that are involved in sports Sarah has been a volunteer since they were young.
“It’s part of what you do when you have kids in sports,” Sarah said.
Her favorite part of volunteering is getting to see the programs succeed.
“It takes a lot of work for these programs to run and be successful,” said Sarah.
Sarah volunteers for the Duncan High School basketball, soccer, as well as the tennis teams.
“I enjoy being available to help out,” said Sarah.
Not only does Sarah volunteer with the high school booster club, but she also spent time volunteering on the Stephens County Humane Society board as well as a volunteer at the Duncan Regional Hospital.
Being a busy mom, wife and volunteer keeps Sarah busy outside of her job, but during the work hours she is helping to brighten smiles as a dental hygienist.
For someone to spend so much of their time volunteering for others takes a special person with some pretty great inspiration to keep working so hard and to stay so busy.
“Seeing kids work and achieve their goals is my inspiration,” said Sarah. “It is such a great time in their lives.”
Not only is seeing all the kids in the program succeed that gives her inspiration, but a lot of it comes from her own two boys, Ben and Nick.
