Sasha Giles serves as treasurer of the Duncan High School baseball booster club.

Her roles include heading fundraising efforts which provide the team food, travel expenses, uniforms and equipment; coordinating special events like seniors night; and manning concessions and tournament hospitality rooms.

“[Giles] is a vital part of our booster club and has been for many years. She does anything and everything the team needs,” Duncan head baseball coach Grant Oliver said.

Giles and her husband, Danny, a local orthopedic surgery specialist and team doctor, have three children. Cameron, the oldest, played baseball at Duncan and graduated in 2019. Alexis played volleyball, basketball and tennis at Duncan and graduated in 2022.

Preston, a Duncan sophomore, plays second base and right field and pitches for the Demons.

“I chose to be involved because I truly love supporting every single player on the team and coaches,” Giles said. “We have such a great baseball program and the parent support we have this year has made it exceptional.”

Giles believes the volunteerism of parents, especially when cooperative, can make a difference for their children.

“I believe involvement in the booster clubs are important because these programs need parents who can give their time and attention to every single player,” Giles said. “Everything I do in the booster club impacts everyone on the team, and that’s what it is all about.”

It’s like a cake, Giles said; the school provides it to the best of its ability. It’s the booster club’s responsibility to provide the icing.

“This may come in the form of an additional uniform or a fun meal after a regional championship. Fundraisers do require so much work and time from booster clubs and its members, but it is definitely worth seeing the smiles on coaches’ and players’ faces when they receive these well-deserved perks,” Giles said.

Through her service to the team, Giles hopes to leave an example.

“I hope Preston learns from my involvement that in everything you are a part of, sports, school, church or a job, you should always have pride in all you do and give 100,” Giles said. “Working hard and giving your time to others unselfishly is what I hope Preston will always do as he matures as a student, athlete and young adult.”

Giles has learned, she said, that the less she speaks during or after a baseball game, the more she learns.

“Preston sets high goals for himself in everything he does and works hard each day,” Giles said, “so my job is to love and support him in all he does, which also happens to be one of the best parts of being a mom!”
