Duncan’s Peyton Williams – Cross Country Spotlight – Presented by L. Don Graham, Jr – Ameriprise Financial Advisor

Peyton Williams, while just a freshman, is already showing the kind of drive and leadership that sets her apart as a multi-sport athlete at Duncan High School. Competing in cross country, track, soccer, and basketball, Williams is not only versatile but determined to make the most of every opportunity on the field, court, and course.

In soccer, she plays midfield, where her endurance and vision keep her team moving. On the basketball court, she rotates between point guard and shooting guard, thriving in the fast pace of the game. But it’s in cross country and track where her commitment truly shines. This summer alone, Peyton logged over 150 miles of training, preparing herself for the demands of her freshman XC season. That consistency paid off in her first high school 5K, where she improved her PR by 30 seconds and helped her team secure the win, a highlight she’ll never forget.

Her motivation comes from her support system of family, teammates, and coaches, but she also looks up to athletes like Delayna Holthaus and Ellie Petersen, whose resilience and work ethic inspire her. Training with upperclassmen has pushed Peyton to higher levels, and she credits Petersen in particular for being both a competitor and a mentor who leads by example.

Peyton’s success is also fueled by balance. She makes sure schoolwork comes first, using class time wisely and staying ahead on assignments, even when meets take her out of the classroom. She appreciates teachers like Mrs. Lawler and Mrs. Castle, who made learning creative and fun while preparing her for challenges ahead.

Beyond athletics, Peyton is active in Student Council, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Key Club, and her New Hope Baptist West youth ministry and leadership team. New to social media, she enjoys following runners like Lizzie Ramey, who remind her to embrace the joy of the sport.

Representing Duncan as a Demon athlete means more than competing; it means being a role model. “I know I have underclassmen looking up to me,” Peyton said. “I strive to be the best role model when I’m competing and in my everyday life.” With Duncan’s new motto #livered, Peyton is ready to lead, excel, and elevate others while chasing her own goals.
