Duncan High School alumni, KC McGuire, is not only a teacher at her old stomping grounds but was recently awarded Teacher of the Month.
“I am honored to be awarded teacher of the month,” said McGuire. “I know there are so many teachers out there that are working hard and are struggling through this year as well, and they deserve this every bit as much as I do.”
McGuire attended Oklahoma State University for her bachelor’s degree then went on to Cameron University for a master’s degree. Although she eventually made her way into teaching, she started school as a law student. After discovering that wasn’t her passion, she made the commitment to turn to education. It just so happens that her mother, father, sister, mother-in-law, several cousins, and her husband are all educators.
Her first teaching job was at Duncan Middle School teaching sixth through eighth graders, then eventually moving to the high school in 2016 and has been there ever since teaching Oklahoma History, U.S. History, Government, and Military History. McGuire has a love for history and that is clear when you hear her talk about it.
“History is literally the story of us,” McGuire said. “How we got to where we are today and that just fascinates me.”
For McGuire not only does she love what she teaches, but she loves who she teaches.
“My absolute favorite thing about teaching is the kids,” McGuire said. “I teach upperclassmen and I love that they are starting to form their own opinions and views of the world and as we start our journey through U.S. History, they start making connections; it’s fun to watch that.”
In her free time and summers McGuire loves to travel with her family. McGuire and husband David have three wonderful children together and love spending time together.
