Duncan Band
Duncan High School junior Juliana Holt is a member of the marching band at DHS and
serves on the Student Council.
Holt started playing in the band during middle school.
“I play the clarinet and have been a member of band since the seventh grade. What I enjoy
most about being in band is making lasting memories with all of my friends and the
challenge it provides to help me grow in my musical ability,” said Holt.
Learning, perfecting and performing is not easy. It takes countless hours of practice and
instruction from good teachers.
“I am also grateful for the time and effort Mr. Haas, Mrs. Haas, and Ms. Garcia have put into
our band. They have a strong commitment to help all of us succeed, not just as band
members but as individuals,” said Holt. “Duncan High School is a great place to be a student
because it is very inclusive, there are a variety of clubs and organizations to get involved in,
and I have found the teachers to be very supportive.”
Holt also spends time in National Honor Society, Leadership, HOSA, and serves as the vice
president of Students Against Destructive Decisions. The start of a new school year is
always a busy time for band members, but worth the time and effort in practice to make
those performances the best they can be.
“What I have enjoyed the most about this year so far is participating in our marching
contests, because they helped show how all our hard work has paid off,” said Holt.
Once she becomes a high school graduate, Holt said she plans on attending college and earn
a degree in the medical field.
In her free time, Holt said she is involved in competitive dance at Heartbeat Dance Studio.
