When head coach Robert Cowan looked over his schedule this summer, the first three games certainly appeared like good tests for his team early in the season. Altus, Class 6A Lawton and Bishop McGuinness were going to provide an early look at where this team was heading into late August and September.
But the test wasn’t, well, much of a test. Except for the first game against Altus in the district opener. Call it first game jitters or just a solid win, the Lady Demons pulled out a, 3-1 victory to open the season. They followed that up with an impressive, 11-0 win over Lawton.
The Lawton game was the first road game and big confidence booster. The next games were to be played in the El Reno tournament, however Duncan was only able to get in one of their three games. The first game against Bishop McGuinness had Duncan coming out on top, 10-3.
The next two were rain out games against Piedmont JV and Enid. In their latest win, Carl Albert provided a nail bitter of a game, eventually coming out on top, 2-3, but Duncan learned a lot from that game and will get another shot at the Lady Titans on September 27th at Carl Albert.
One player to keep an eye on this season is junior pitcher KK Miller. Miller recorded over 200 strikeouts as a sophomore and is a very good hitter with speed on the bags. Expectations are growing behind her arm.
Other teammates include seniors, Emily Mefford and Kaya Harvey, juniors Mac Cogburn, Hannah Harper, Emily Wilson, sophomores Gracie Goble, Bree Qualls, Jaedyn Harvey, Kaydence Barnes, and freshmen Kailee Benton, Mia Ramos, Lexxus “Mo” McReynolds, Kristyn Alvarez, Emily Hansen, Aubrie Davis and Hannah Woods.
