Athlete Spotlight with Duncan’s Khi Haynes – Presented by Don Graham – Ameriprise

Duncan High School sophomore Khi Haynes is already making an impact for the Demons as a football player and track athlete. On the football field, Haynes contributes at running back and defensive back, bringing versatility and a competitive mindset to both sides of the ball.

For Haynes, the motivation behind the work is simple: continue progressing and pursue the opportunity to play beyond high school.

“Just trying to make it to the next level.”

That focus shapes the way Haynes approaches practices, workouts, and the daily responsibility of improving. He understands that success does not happen by accident, and he values having people around him who share the same desire to grow.

“Working hard to get better and hanging around people that want to get better.”

Haynes credits his aunt and uncle as two of the most important influences in his life. Their support has helped guide him through his athletic development while also keeping him focused on making good decisions away from competition.

“My aunt and uncle because they helped me get to where I am now and are always making sure I’m doing the right thing to get better.”

His uncle, Coach Carter, has also played an especially meaningful role. Haynes sees him as a mentor who has helped him develop not only as an athlete, but also as a person.

“I think the teacher that has had the most impact in my life is my uncle, Coach Carter, because he has helped me get better on and off the field. He’s helped me a lot.”

One of Haynes’ favorite memories came when he scored his first varsity touchdown, a milestone that made the work worthwhile. In practice, he enjoys competing with Duncan’s other running backs because of the standard they set for each other every day.

“The other running backs because we are making each other better and pushing each other every day in practice.”

Haynes also appreciates the overlooked work of teammate Cayden Morris, recognizing that linemen often do essential work without receiving the same attention. As he continues balancing academics, football, and track, Haynes remains proud to represent Duncan.

“It’s cool because I can show people my skill and how good our team is, and it’s just a really fun experience.”
