Serving as the instructor and coordinator for the Pathways to Future Careers Internship Program at Duncan High School, Lesa Hefner is in her fifth year in that position.
“My favorite thing about teaching is my students,” said Lesa. “I feel like they are my kids, and I am always excited and proud when they have even small successes.”
Getting her start with teaching in a different approach than most, Lesa feels as though teaching was truly her end goal.
“Although at 18 you could have never convinced me being a teacher would be the career for me, I believe this is my calling and purpose,” Lesa said. “My goal is helping my students to reach theirs. I truly want to give my students the tools and resources they need to be successful in the future. I want to have a positive impact on their futures! I really got into teaching by using the computer skills I gained from attending Southern Oklahoma Technology Center during my senior year. I began my career by assisting teachers and students in a computer lab. I realized that I enjoyed teaching and my teacher friends at the time encouraged me to pursue a career in teaching.”
In her free time Lesa enjoys spending her time with husband Adam of more than 37 years, their two daughters and their four wonderful grandbabies as much as she can. Reading and working with her plants as well as her flower gardens also take up a large portion of her free time.
