2021 Duncan Football Schedule and Results
Being on a ball field is nothing strange for Duncan Demon Kenny Garland, because he’s been playing some sort of sport since he was six years old.
“Football was my first love early on,” Garland said. “I love football because that has been my game since I was little, and I fell in love with just tossing the football around.”
That early love has brought Garland to his final season in a Duncan uniform. He said the season is off to a good start.
“We didn’t have very many starters coming back this year, and having guys adjust to new positions has been our biggest challenge so far,” he said. “We are starting to figure out our identity as a team, and the important things for when we head into districts. A couple of goals I have for this season are to enjoy it because it’s my last year and hosting a playoff game. I try not to focus on individual goals too much. When I am able to play loose and play calm, the individual goals and stats I want all come with that. Having fun and focusing on winning are the biggest things I try to accomplish.”
Garland said he’s also focused on being a team leader for his younger Demons.
“I see it as not only an opportunity to get the younger guys ready for Friday nights this year, but years to come,” he said. “I remember being young and wanting advice, and it felt good knowing the upperclassmen cared not only about their success in the moment, but for the future team as well.”
In his free time, Garland said he enjoys fishing, and said he’s fortunate to have a lot of friends who just want to hang out.
“I’m a simple guy, so my free time really just consists of hanging out with my friends and family on weekends,” he said.
