As the Duncan Demons football team is starting their 2021 season, one freshmen is already garnering a lot of attention on the field. Eli Ramirez is excited to finally be a varsity athlete for his school.
“As an incoming freshman I’m hoping to do my part to help set Duncan Athletics up for success,” said Ramirez. “The thing I love the most about my team and teammates is that we are very close and have a great work ethic instilled by our coaches to progressively get better every time we put on a Duncan Demon uniform.”
This spring, Ramirez got a taste of varsity action during spring ball and what he experienced left an impression on him coming into the season.
“The things that surprised me during spring ball were how well we executed plays on both sides of the ball,” said Ramirez. “My goals for this season are to continue to progress academically as well as in all athletics. Also, to contribute to my football team to help us play to the maximum of our capability.”
Not only is Ramirez ready for football, but he’s also an outstanding wrestler and baseball player.
“The other sports I play are baseball and wrestling. As a baseball player I play shortstop, outfield, and a right-handed pitcher. I competed in the Junior High All-State wrestling tournament last year and placed third. Looking forward to a successful season on the high school team this coming season,” said Ramirez.
Ramirez is a mentally tough athlete. He began wrestling at the age of four.
“Wrestling is a very tough sport that teaches discipline, work ethic, and dedication. At the end of the day its only you out there, you have no one else to rely on. Wrestling also teaches you grit and pushes you mentally and physically which helps with not only other sports but also in becoming a young man,” said Ramirez.
In the classroom his favorite subject is math, but away from school you can usually find him working on the family farm, working out and spending time with family.
