Duncan’s Crysta Ramierz has been looking forward to being a senior cheerleader since she started cheering six years ago.
“Since seventh grade I’ve looked forward to be a leader on the team and I feel like this year I am,” she says. “I try to be there for other people. I also try to take the information I’ve learned from the past years and apply it to this year. I just try to step up and help the other girls and teach them the things they need to know.”
Part of cheering and being a leader is building chemistry within the squad. That bond that cheer teams have is something that Crysta loves.
“I like the bond that we have on the team,” she says. “Of course, I like stunts and the band dances but it’s really the bond with the girls I like the most.”
Like most cheerleaders, Ramirez loves game days.
“I really like the energy of the crowd,” she says. “I’m more shy without being in uniform. But whenever I put on my uniform, I just let loose and have fun. I just feed off everyone else’s energy and have fun.”
Outside of cheer, you can find Crysta serving in a multitude of roles. She is a member of the Duncan student council, part of the leadership program, the Jolly Jill Social Club, and is active in her church. Following graduation, she plans on attending the University of Central Oklahoma to become a speech pathologist.
